Braces will take a short time to get used to. Follow The Tooth Mover’s helpful tips for your first days in braces. You can eat any time after leaving our office. However, we ask that you be mindful of the suggested list of foods that may be harmful to the braces. Until you become accustomed to eating with your new braces, you may find it beneficial to follow a diet consisting of soft foods.
Initially your braces may feel like they “stick out”, but this is normal. As you become accustomed to your braces and your tooth alignment improves, this sensation will disappear. Using the provided orthodontic wax may be helpful until your cheeks become used to the braces. Occasionally, patients report they experience no discomfort, but most have some soreness during the first day or two. Advil or Motrin are perfect for any tooth soreness you experience.
Before leaving the office at each visit, be sure to:
• Using your tongue check that the wire ends do not extend or poke you.
• Make sure you understand what you are to do until your next appointment, such as wearing elastics as instructed or adjusting an expander.
• Make sure you have an adequate supply of dental wax, elastics, etc.
• Always schedule your next appointment before leaving the office to ensure an ideal appointment time, since appointments are set 4-8 weeks in advance.
